As of November 4th, 2008 we have approximately 701.8 million barrels of oil in the Strategic Petroleum Reserve. That is a lot of oil. It is comforting to know that we maintain this reserve of oil in the event of an emergency. In fact, we have enough oil to run the country for 34 days. Yep, that is it. Our reserves are enough to run the nation for a total of 34 days. That of course is running our nation at full capacity, but that will not be the case. We will provide the military with their needs and then take care of the needs of other emergency infrastructure. It will not be for you car.
You will be on your own until we solve the crisis that stops the oil flow, either militarily or diplomatically. Gas prices may be dropping, but remember oil is not a renewable energy source. We will run out one day and the reserve will not save us. We have to act now. We need alternative energy sources for the future.
